3 Day Diet Reviews

Having just read several 3 Day Diet reviews I despair, this is the absolute worst way to lose weight and you will not achieve long term weight loss following diets like this – why?

Because by starving yourself for three days all you’ll do is slow your metabolism down and shed water.

You will not lose much if any body fat and you’ll end up burning fewer calories on days four, five and six than before you started!

This is a ridiculous diet that simply panders to people’s understandable desire to lose weight quickly.

Ok, rant over. Let’s take a look at why this diet is the absolute opposite of what you should be doing and in the long run will end up making you fat!

3 Day Diet Reviews – What is it…?

The 3 Day Diet is a very low calorie diet that claims you’ll lose 10lbs in three days if you stick to the diet plan.

I’m sorry, but is there really anyone out there that believes you can lose 10lbs of body fat in three days?

The diet is designed to be used for three days only after which you eat normally for four days…the rest of the week basically.

You then starve yourself again for another three days, lose another 10lbs and so it goes on.

The meal plans are essentially low calorie, low carb and low fat. They’re composed of a little protein, some veg and salad, some fruit and lots of tea and coffee.

The 3 Day Diet website contains lots of 3 Day Diet reviews by satisfied customers claiming that the diet is the best diet they’ve tried, posting extravagant weight loss claims and generally extolling its effectiveness.

You can order the diet in e-book format for $15 online.

3 Day Diet Reviews – Does it Work…?

Ok, let’s start with the, “lose 10lbs in 3 days” claim.

Forget the claims made in some 3 Day Diet reviews and testimonials, a bit of simple maths will help to debunk this nonsense.

There are 3,500 calories in a pound of fat. To lose 1lb of body fat you need to eat 3,500 calories less than your body burns off.

In reality, you’ll lose a combination of fat, muscle, stored carbs and water when you diet – so each pound you lose won’t actually be 100% fat.

However, let’s assume in this instance that it is.

Now, to lose 10lbs of body fat you would need to eat 35,000 calories less than you burn off. Divide that by three – that’s 11,600 calories a day for three days.

Are you seriously telling me that you’ll be eating 11,600 calories less than you’ll be burning off on each of the three days you’re on this diet?

Think about it.

The average woman burns around 2,000 calories a day. This diet is 1,000 calories a day or less.

That’s a difference of 1,000 calories a day. A total of 3,000 calories over three days — less than a pound of fat lost.

One of the 3 Day Diet reviews I read claimed that it was the tea and coffee that burnt off all the fat. Sure, green tea for instance, may help you to burn more calories – about 80 a day!

Exercise? Yep, that will burn a few calories but we need to find another 10,500 calories a day to lose the 10lbs in three days.

Running will burn approximately 100 calories a mile. That’s 2,600 calories for a whole marathon!

But wait, that still leaves us around 8,000 calories a day short…

There is absolutely no way on earth that you will lose 10lbs of body fat in three days without chopping off a body part!

So, what is the weight you lose composed off?

When you reduce your calorie intake your body dips into its stored carbohydrate reserves first – glycogen stored in the muscles and liver. That’s around 400-500 calories in total.

One part of carbohydrate is stored with three parts of water. Most of the weight you lose in the first few days of any diet is water.

I doubt very much that you’ll lose 10lbs in three days on this diet. You may lose a few pounds at best depending on how overweight you are.

That will be mainly water, stored carbs, a little fat and some muscle protein.

Guess what? Start eating normally again in the four day phase and most of that will go back on again.

Starve for another three days and you’ll lose the weight again.

This is nonsensical. Why on earth would anyone want to go through the purgatory of three days of virtual starvation when there are much more effective ways to lose weight and keep it off?

3 Day Diet Reviews – The Bottom Line…

This is the worst kind of diet and will not work in the long term. Sure you may lose a few pounds to begin with as claimed in a few 3 Day Diet reviews, but you won’t keep it off.

Continue to starve yourself and you’ll put off the inevitable. But sure as eggs is eggs, once you start eating normally the weight will pile back on.

The reason that most diets don’t work is because the calorie reduction is too low and your body thinks you’re starving.

It slows down your metabolism so as to burn fewer calories and conserve energy. It also breaks down and burns muscle tissue – protein – for energy.

Muscle is responsible for most of the calories you burn each day, so reducing your lean tissue mass in this way also helps your body to conserve energy.

Whatsmore, each time you diet, eg every week on this diet, your body reacts more quickly to the fact that you’re starving and slows your metabolism.

Each successive period of dieting becomes increasingly less effective. In the long term you’ll end up fatter than when you started!

This is essentially a yo-yo diet – follow it and you’ll be on the ‘diet-lose weight-stop dieting-gain weight-diet again’ treadmill.

You’ll mess up your metabolism and make long term weight loss all the more difficult to achieve.

Common sense should tell you that this diet will not work. But then again, common sense isn’t all that common!
