Horizon EX 75 Elliptical Trainer Review

Our Horizon EX 75 elliptical trainer review would suggest that whilst a decent try, this elliptical is outclassed by the best of the competition.

With the EX 75, Horizon, which is owned by Johson has attempted to make a moderately priced machine to compete with the likes of Sole.

Whilst it’s a better made machine than the disappointing EX 55 and EX 65, the claims made that it’s a commercial quality elliptical trainer are well wide of the mark.

It’s not terrible, but how well does it stack up?

Horizon EX 75 Elliptical Trainer Review – Features

As such, we’ve found the same basic design and quality flaws with this top of the range model. From a design perspective, the E75 is very similar to the EX 55 and 65, which is worrying as neither have a great deal to commend them.

The magnetic resistance system is adequate, but at $1,299 I would expect the superior eddy current brake (ECB) system, which results in a far smoother ride.

The action is choppy and not very refined and despite a heavier flywheel than in the cheaper units, it still lacks the stability and solidity I would expect of $1,000 plus ellipticals.

The poor build quality is largely to blame, as is the layout with the ‘stacked flywheel’ design that results in the flywheel being above rather than in line and in front of the pedals.

This makes the elliptical a little shorter – good for space saving but not so good for stability.

The 18″ stride length is adequate, although many competitiors offer a 20″ stride length that’s well worth having.

The warranties aren’t too bad – a lifetime warranty on the frame and 12 years on the brake, but still only a paltry one year on the parts and labour.

As with the EX 55 and 65, based on the cheap components, poor build quality and questionable durabilty, our Horizon EX 75 elliptical trainer review would suggest that this elliptical is likely to cause a few headaches as far as wear and tear is concerned.

I’d be looking for more than a year’s worth of cover!

I’m not going to tell you about the console display, the 20 workout programs, the pivoting foot pedals and incline facility as the basics of this machine are what’s important and they could be a lot better.

This model retails for $1,299, but our Horizon EX 75 elliptical trainer review found it for $999 at Home Fitness Club.

Horizon EX 75 Elliptical Trainer Review – The Bottom Line…

I’ll keep this short – whilst they sell well and you will find the odd positive review of Horizon ellipticals, on the basis of our Horizon EX 75 elliptical trainer review I wouldn’t recommend this model.

I cannot fathom why anyone would choose to buy one over say a Sole E25, which you can pick up at a discounted price of $1,090 – believe me, it’s worth the extra $100!
