10 Free Weight Loss Tips that are so Easy to Implement
#1. Try one carb-free meal a day
Low-carb dieting can be effective but isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Instead of cutting back on the carbs altogether, why not ensure that one meal a day is low carb?
Ideally make it lunch as too many carbs at lunchtime will make you sleepy in the afternoon.
Instead of a sandwich or jacket potato have a salad and some lean protein – chicken, tuna, turkey…
Try it for a week and see how you get on! There are some more meal ideas in our healthy weight loss plan.
#2. Drink more milk
Research from the US published in Obesity Research and the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that three 225ml glasses a day helped test subjects lose body fat, maintain muscle tissue and protect bone density.
Protein really is one of the foods that promote weight loss and milk is a rich source of calcium.
The good news is that there’s growing evidence of a link between calcium and weight loss.
Lower fat skimmed or semi-skimmed milk is best. If you can’t drink that much milk then try soya milk instead, which is fortified with calcium.
#3. Snack before exercise
Exercising whilst trying to lose weight can be tough as you can sometimes feel drained of energy…the prospect of 40 minutes of aerobics can be less than appealing!
Try eating a banana or drinking a smoothie 30 minutes before your workout and you’ll notice a real boost in your energy levels…making you more likely to make the effort to exercise!
The more regularly you exercise, the more calories you burn and the more weight you lose – a no-brainer when it comes to free weight loss tips!
#4. Carry a bottle of water with you everywhere
I know, I know, there’s no room in your handbag, briefcase or whatever.
But staying hydrated is great for your health and drinking your 2 liters a day can give a real boost to your diet efforts. There are very real links between water and weight loss.
#5. Eat plenty of colorful fruit and veg
Research at the Center for Human Nutrition at UCLA in the US has demonstrated the important role in your diet that the various nutrients in colorful fruit and veg play.
Blueberries are a superfood, as are oranges, broccoli, tomatoes and spinach.
And anyway, a colorful plate of food is going to help you feel more positive about your diet as well as being good for your health!
#6. Spice up your diet
Research published in a number of respected journals has found that spicy food can aid weight loss.
Well, it’s the capsaicin that’s found in chili peppers to be precise.
Studies have indicated that it may help to stimulate fat breakdown and aid weight loss when eaten daily.
Capasaicin is one of a number of natural herbs that may help weight loss.
#7. Banish the alcohol for a few weeks
Ok, so we fibbed a little, these free weight loss tips are not all that easy!
A 250ml glass of wine has 190-210 calories. If you drink one glass a day, cutting it out could add up to an extra 2lbs a month of weight loss!
One of the tougher free weight loss tips, but potentially one of the most effective.
#8. Eat a little birdfood
Well flaxseeds to be precise. Available from most supermarkets, add a dessertspoon to your cereal or a salad.
They’re the richest source of Omega 3 fatty acids, which are great for heart health and can help burn fat. There’s a pretty good link between Omega 3 and weight loss.
#9. Try hypnosis
Ok, maybe a little way out for some people, but a study at the University of Connecticut in the US found that people who tried hypnosis for weight loss lost nearly twice as much weight as the control group that didn’t.
#10. Get a good night’s sleep
Research has shown that people who get eight hours sleep or more a night are less likely to be overweight than people who get less sleep.
A lack of sleep can lead to insulin resistance, which may make your body more likely to store fat.
Also, if you’re tired during the day your metabolism drops — so try and get a decent nights sleep if you can!
