Apple Cider Vinegar Diet Review

This Apple Cider Vinegar Diet review looks at one of the more bizarre weight loss theories…can apple cider vinegar really help you to lose weight?

This fad diet has been doing the rounds since the 70’s and has its advocates. It seems to be having a bit of a revival of late with sites springing up selling this ‘miracle’ weight loss product.

As a result we thought we’d do some research and see if there’s any basis whatsoever for the weight loss claims made for apple cider vinegar.

Apple Cider Vinegar Diet Review – How Does it Work…?

This diet review stirred the biochemist in me.

The original theory is set out in various books such as “Amazing Cider Vinegar” and “Apple Cider Vinegar for Weight Loss and Good Health”.

Proponents claim that a combination of apple cider vinegar, kelp, vitamin B6 and lecithin, either in liquid or pill form when combined with a low calorie diet will speed up your metabolism and burn body fat.

Apparently, the lecithin acts as a fat emulsifier, the vitamin B6 metabolises the fat, the kelp provides iodine to stimulate the thyroid gland and boost your metabolism and the vinegar supplies potassium.

Apple Cider Vinegar Diet Review – Does it Work…?

I find this theory hilarious and quite why it’s still being touted as an effective way to lose weight is beyond me.

The scientific basis to the diet is non-existant. There’s no credible evidence at all to support the efficacy of this diet.

For example, iodine will only stimulate your thyroid if you’re deficient in iodine.

There’s nearly a hundred times as much potassium in a glass of grapefruit juice than a teaspoon or two of vinegar.

The evidence base for lecithin as a fat emulsifier – despite its inclusion in many a fat burner – is weak at best.

There are new apple cider vinegar supplements on the market. They variously include additional ingredients like chromium and gymnema sylvestre in the formula. Not much evidence to support their effectiveness for weight loss either.

To be frank, the reason that people lose weight on this program is because of the low calorie diet and has absolutely nothing to do with the vinegar.

It’s not going to hurt you, but it’s not going to make your diet any more effective either.

Apple Cider Vinegar Diet Review – The Bottom Line…

Sorry, but the conclusion of this Apple Cider Vinegar Diet review can be summed up by a three letter word…fad!

Sure, you’ll find plenty of sites promoting ‘high quality’, ‘brand new’, ‘even more effective’ apple cider vinegar supplements complete with testimonials.

However you rehash and recycle it though, the fact remains that there’s no credible, scientific evidence to suggest that this diet works.

If you want to lose weight reduce your calorie intake and do some exercise.

Eat a varied, balanced diet full of fresh fruit, veg, wholegrains and lean protein. It will give you all the iodine, lecithin, potassium and B6 you need.
