The Best Weight Loss Supplement – now there’s something that I get asked an awful lot, so what is the best diet pill for fat loss?
In our society we’re always looking for instant gratification. We struggle with patience and the long term view and want results today – and for minimum effort.
And therein lies the reason for the enormous success of the weight loss industry, best typified by the proliferation of diet products promising instant and significant weight loss if you just pop a pill or mix some powder with water.
So – is there a best weight loss supplement?
A product that will melt away your body fat with no need for diet or exercise? The simple answer is a resounding NO!
Most companies marketing such products have toned down their claims due to the close attention of bodies like the FDA in the US and the OFT in the UK.
However, the products are still out there on your local high street or a click away on the internet.
So, do any of them actually work?
We’ve looked at plenty of them in our healthy weight loss supplements review and there are a few herbs for weight loss that have shown some promise in limited trials.
However, none of them on their own will deliver anything like the results – if any at all – of a diet and exercise program.
Consider this. There are 3,500 calories in a pound of fat. Therefore, to lose a pound a week you need to create a daily calorie deficit of 500 calories.
Whether through eating 500 calories a day less, burning off an extra 500 calories a day through exercise, or a combination of the two.
There isn’t a serious research study anywhere on any of the fat loss supplements on the market – or their ingredients – that has demonstrated results on this scale.
Take the current darling of the weight loss supplement industry – tea.
Now both green tea and wu long tea have been shown in limited studies to raise your metabolic rate by around 80 calories a day.
Great, but do the maths – on its own and if true, that will take an awfully long time to add up to any significant weight loss.
Drink tea for its health benefits, but we’d suggest you forget the expensive green tea or wu long diet tea supplements out there.
Even the three prescription weight loss drugs – orlistat, sibutramine and rimonobant – only promise a 5-10% reduction in body weight over 1-2 years.
For around $50 a month or more, plus the rather unpleasant side effects associated with them, that’s an expensive way to lose weight!
If any of the fat loss supplements available on the high street came anywhere close to these results then they’d be classed as drugs and would be prescription only.
So, is there a best weight loss supplement that will deliver significant weight loss? Not on the basis of the research evidence we’ve looked at to date.
Show me the evidence and I might change my mind, but there’s nothing that comes close to a diet and exercise program for delivering the weight loss results that you’re looking for.
So forget the effortless, quick fix offered in the diet pill marketing blurb and eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. You are far more likely to get the results you’re looking for.
