Our Sole E55 Elliptical Trainer review looks at a commercial quality elliptical aimed at the home-user market – does it deliver?
The E55 is the third model in the Sole elliptical trainer range and is a step up from the E35. The E55 replaces the old E75 and for our money, is a better machine.
The E55 has many of the features that you’d expect from a club machine and is built to be a durable performer in the most demanding of environments – but is it?
Sole E55 Elliptical Trainer Review – Features
The E35 is a great performer and the E55 in most respects is the same machine. If you’ve read our review of the E35, you’ll appreciate how highly I regard Sole elliptical’s, and our Sole E55 Elliptical Trainer review is no exception.
It shares the generous 20″ stride length essential for taller users, the excellent Whisper Quiet Drive System with state of the art eddy current braking (ECB) resistance and the hefty 30lb flywheel.
The E55 has the same oversize foot pedals with 2 degree inward slope to reduce knee and ankle stress.
The E55 shares the same dimensions as the E35 at 82″ by 27″ but is heavier, weighing in at 196lbs.
Slightly harder to move around than the E35, but more stable as a result.
So what else do you get to justify the extra $200 price tag?
For a start, there’s a foot pedal angle adjustment feature often found on high end machines, but not on ellipticals at this price.
The pedals adjust to suit the way you walk and as a result, are claimed to reduce the toe numbness and sore Achilles tendons that can occur with regular and prolonged use on some elliptical trainers.
You also get the heart control feature that enables the machine to monitor your heart rate and automatically adjust the resistance and intensity of your workout. This ensure you stay at optimal levels and get the most from your workout.
You get the same 16 resistance levels as the E35 but two extra workout programs – ten in total, with two user defined programs.
There’s a console display upgrade as well, with a blue backlit LCD display that is a little easier to read than the E35’s more basic display.
The E55 comes with the same generous warranties as the E35, with a lifetime warranty on the frame, 5 years on the parts and electronics and 2 years on the labour.
The MSRP for the E55 is $2,499.00, but it’s currently on sale direct from Sole at $1,499.99 including free shipping.
Sole E55 Elliptical Trainer Review – The Bottom Line…
Our Sole E55 Elliptical Trainer review would conclude that if you’re looking for a club quality elliptical for home use, then the E55 will be tough to beat at the sale price.
Is it worth the extra couple of hundred dollars to upgrade from the E35? If your budget will stretch, then the adjustable pedals and the heart control feature are certainly worth having.
Whether you stick with the E35 or opt for the E55 you’ll get a stable, durable machine with a wonderfully smooth ride that will last for years.
Factor in the warranty and free shipping and the E55 adds up to an excellent package – practically unbeatable at the sale price of $1,499.99. Highly recommended!
